Fish Alberta's Alpine & Prairie Lakes

Alberta isn't what usually comes to mind when someone mentions trophy rainbows and still waters. However, with the help of aeration and special regulations, some pothole lakes in the southern part of the province are consistently producing rainbows over five pounds. These lakes are very fertile and produce amazing growth rates amongst the trout. As most of these lakes are accessible by vehicles, fishing can be done from shore, belly boats, or drift boats.

Although most of these lakes are not difficult to get to, they do require some hiking, so being in shape is a good idea. We highly recommend combining one of the many stillwater opportunities with a float trip on the Bow River or a Walk and Wade.
