Bill Windsor
Bow River Hookers Fly Fishing Guide
Bill has been fly fishing Southern Alberta waters for close to fifty years. Spending close to 100 days each year on the Bow River has given him a knowledge of the river that, time and time again, the guests in his boat benefit from. Bill brings a little different dimension to the team, as the oldest guiding member he tends to keep our feet on the ground. He is so committed to fishing success, he plays with flies in his bathtub to see how the flies move and react in the water so he is better prepared when he gets on the river. His passion is the Bow River and putting guests, especially new fly fishers, into its trophies.

Although Bill isn't the youngest fly fishing guide on the Bow River, he is certainly one of the hardest working guides. Bill is often seen rowing or towing his boat upstream to give the fishers in his boat a second, third and even fourth go at a run. His philosophy is that if you're floating the Bow River in his boat, you might as well be fighting a fish. And the proof is in the pudding. Just look at the accolades he has received on our testimonials page.
Bill started fly fishing at a tender age when his 9 foot Hardy Bamboo rod was three times as tall as he was.
His haunts were the spring and muskeg fed streams and lakes of the foothills where he relentlessly hunted Brown Trout. Bill still carries a personal passion for Brown Trout but is happy to chase fish of any kind as long as he can fish them with a fly rod.
Piloting a boat Bill's focus is entirely on the satisfaction of his clients. He is intent on creating an enjoyable and memorable day of fishing and getting his fishers into trout. He believes that to be successful as a fly fishing guide, the guide has to want his guests to catch fish more than the fishers themselves want it. Again, the proof is in the pudding. And while there are days when the Bow River humbles even the most seasoned and experienced fishers on the river, those days are far and few between for Bill and the fishermen in his boat.
